i'm not japanese either! Manga is done in so many diverse styles, I think the problem is that we overseas dont explore them enough, people mostly read what is popular and then try to emulate that artstyle. As a kid all the kids around me were copying Akira Toriyama and Masami Kurumada drawings (me included) but eventually to stand out I tried to be different and started picking up manga, anime and japanese games I saw in magazines.
Thankfully nowadays we have the internet and in it theres an infinite amount of content to look at and be inspired by, so dont be stuck on just that one shonen manga, give some romance a try LOL
